Poem for the soul: how will your day be today ?, Mario Benedetti.

In the morning, before getting out of bed, the first thing I do is say “thank you” and then I ask myself the following 3 questions: What attitude do I want to have today? How do I want to feel? What am I going to do so that So be it?.

You are responsible for your own attitudes and, although it may not be easy, they can change. One must always be ready to improve oneself.

Goleman summarizes it in the following way: “It’s the combination of reasonable talent and the ability to persevere in the face of failure that leads to success.” This last attitude is basic in what he calls “emotional intelligence” which, in summary, defines it as the “ability to motivate ourselves, to persevere in the effort despite possible frustrations, to control impulses, to defer gratifications, to regulate our own states of mind, to avoid the anxiety that interferes with our rational faculties and, last but not least, the ability to empathize and trust others ”

Poem: How will your day be today ?, by Mario Benedetti

This morning I woke up excited

with all the things I had to do

before the clock rang.

I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I’m important.

My job is to choose what kind of day I will have.

Today I can complain because the day is rainy

or I can be grateful that the plants are being watered.

Today I can feel sad because I don’t have any more money

or I can be happy because my finances push me

to plan my purchases wisely.

Today I can complain about my health

or I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can regret everything

that my parents didn’t give me while I was growing up

Or I can feel grateful that I was allowed to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns

or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can feel sorry for not having many friends

Or I can get excited and embark on the adventure of discovering new relationships.

Today I can complain because I have to go to work

or I can scream with joy because I have a job.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school

or I can open my mind vigorously

and fill it with new and rich knowledge.

Today I can gossip bitterly because I have to do the housework

Or I can feel honored because I have a roof over my mind and body.

Today the day appears before me waiting for me to shape it and here I am, I am the sculptor.

What happens today is up to me. I must choose what type of day I will have.

Have a great day … unless you have other plans
